Tomorrow is my birthday. I am another year closer to 40....yowza! I'm in a totally different place than I ever imagined I would be. My life is completely under mega construction, but I am proud to announce that I am moving forward and attempting to do so with my head held high without losing who I am in the process. :0)
Ok onto classroom stuff.
My classroom has cabinet along one side. The lower half are painted like a light brown AWFUL color. Plus they are stained and chipping. The top half are just regular oak cabinets. I am debating painting them with either magnetic primer or just magnetic paint. I'm afraid I will make an absolute mess of things, I can't imagine that they would look worse; however, I am not what you would call the best painter. I had an entire living room that is proof positive, it had to be repainted professionally! Anyone have luck using magnetic paint?
Also, I think I am going to make those nifty little crate seats for my gigantic guided reading table. My question to those who are using them...are they worth it? I am extremely limited on space and storage, and I won a grant for a bunch of leveled readers for Reading Buddies. I thought it would be great to get rid of the bulky chairs and to have a place to house my new readers. This brings me to another question for you. I just won a grant for leveled readers to use for Reading Buddies with a first grade class. We intended on buying SunSprouts from ETA; however, they have been discontinued. UGH! Any thoughts?
I have a couple of goodies for you dog lovers out there...nameplates and a font sort. I love font sorting at the beginning of the year. These are both made with fonts and graphics from our friends over at DJ Inkers. They are used with permission :0) Show some love if you download! Also, if there is something that you would love me to make, let me know!

Also, if you missed my post. I have a brand new Bear Unit. I can't wait to use it in September!
Thanks so much for all the kind comments and emails! I am so grateful to have such a wonderful and supportive group of readers!

Happy Birthday!! Love the font sort!! Thanks so much for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday a little early! You are so inspiring to me! I admire you for keeping your head up and marching on! You have been in my prayers lately......:)
ReplyDeleteI'm anxious to see what people tell you about their crate seats. I am getting ready to purchase the supplies to make those for my room, too. I am searching for the perfect fabric without breaking the bank!
Your dog freebies are perfect! Thank you for those! I look forward to buying your owl and bear units soon....I just have to space out my purchases a little bit. (I'm in a little trouble with my hubby because of all my back to school shopping. :) )
Thanks again!

Happy birthday and thanks for the cute freebies! I just made some crate seats for my classroom, I spent about $32 for four so think they are a cute budget friendly addition to my classroom :).
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!! I hope you have a fantastic day tomorrow! I am thinking about making crate seats too, but I want to wait until I get to go back in my classroom to make sure they will be high enough for my students to sit comfortably at my table. I think they will be, but I want to double check.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cute dog things, so great!
Kari :)
Happy Birthday Shannon! Have a wonderful day! Thanks for the cute doggie stuff. I used to do a dog and cat unit and the kids loved it. I would like to share some of the bear activities from your unit on my blog if you don't mind.

Shannon...I cannot imagine how topsy turvy your life has become, but I admire you for your strength, courage, and positive attitude.
ReplyDeleteLast year I moved into a new room when I moved to Kindergarten. There was an ugly, scratched, and stained make-shift white board screwed to the chalkboard. I wanted to just paint over it with white board paint, but my husband thought it might be good to also do the magnetic paint as a primer. He was helping so I let him. I really like how my board looks and how the white board paint lets me write on it (it is my word wall). The magnetic part...not so much. It is only sort of magnetic. We used two coats of the magnet paint and two of the white board. It holds small pieces of paper with those magnetic rounds, but magnet men are too heavy and slide down. Most magnets I tried slide down the board (they are either too strong and therefore too heavy or not strong enough). Hope that helps.

Happy Birthday! I hope you enjoy every minute of your special day! :) I made some crate seats for this year. We haven't used them yet but I think it's going to be great to have that extra sitting space without my students dragging their chairs across the room. :)

Hi Shannon. I have a request....would you be willing to make an editable homework calendar for the upcoming school year? I love your format! I am willing to pay for it, and I think others would too. :)
