Winter Wonderland

When we return from Winter Break, I like to do a unit on Winter. My Kinder-Hoppers love snow, but it is usually too cold for us to really enjoy it. I really try to make the unit a lot of fun!

All the printables can also be found in one file here...

Snow Unit

Books we love...

My students LOVE creating these snow people after we read Snowballs. They work in co-operative groups and really have to make decisions together. I take out as much "stuff" as I can so they can decorate. It is truly an activity that they adore. The final product isn't always pretty or cute, but the experience they gain from completing the task is nothing short of awesome!

Math Activities/Worksheets
We make this graph...

Each month we make a math journal page for our memory books. We made snowmen using our fingerprints in white paint. Then we decorated them using more paint. Once they were dry, we used felt snowflakes for the final touches!

Jack Hartmann

Oh I cannot describe how much I love Jack Hartmann. Once upon a time, I was a Dr. Jean and Greg & Steve junkie...now I cannot get enough of Jack! My love for him increased when I came to discover how much the boys truly enjoy him. There is something about his sound, kind of "rockish" that appeals to the boys.

After seeing Shari Sloane and Kim Adsit over the last few years, I have become addicted to creating big books to go along with many of Jack's songs. I wish, wish, wish that I could trust my Kinder-Hoppers to completely take care of these books and make them into individual listening centers, but I spent too much time making these books and my fear of them being destroyed is far too great! Someday I will make another copy so students can get them into their hot little hands. But, for now let me share some of my big books with you :)

Birthdays has to be an all-time favorite in my room! I used the Frog Birthday Bulletin board set (mainly because I have a frog theme in my room) to do the individual months. I used the packaging to create the cover.

Count by Fives is a wonderful way to help students practice counting by 5's. I used the Carson Dellosa Handprint Cut Outs to make the book.

Count by 10's book. I used a combination of online clipart and some from old Carson Dellosa clipart CD's. (If you can find those CD's, they are worth the investment...the ones I have and use the most are "Letters and Numbers", "Terrific Learning Themes", and "Seasons, Holidays, and Celebrations".)

After Winter Break, I jazz up my morning message with hello's from all around the world. I used a combination of the Stick Kid Airplanes from Creative Teaching Press and DJ inkers clipart. I found these cards at Lakeshore Learning that have a picture and the word. http://www.lakeshorelearning.com/product/productDet.jsp?productItemID=1,689,949,371,917,740&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181113&bmUID=1294359852158

Here is a picture of ABC Disco. I used Trend Alpha-Beads letters and Creative Teaching Press Poppin' Stars Mini Cut-Outs.

Hands Up for Letter Sounds. I used a combination of clipart from Carson Dellosa CD's, DJ inkers, and a few from online. For the letters, I used stickers that I bought years ago at JoAnn fabric.

Blogging

Hello!
After spending a lot of time on some other teaching blogs, I've decided to give it a try. I plan on posting my units as I do them within my classroom. Most of my ideas are of course...borrowed from the best of the best :-), but I do try to put my own spin on them or add activities/worksheets to go along with them.

Thanks in advance for reading!
