Poetry Journals: Making them Matter (November Edition)

Before the Poetry Journal post...

  • You can find how I introduce Poetry Journals here...http://kinder-pond.blogspot.com/2011/07/poetry-journals-making-them-matter_07.html
  • Yes, I will be posting December...soon.
  • I will be creating a post on activities that we do later on in the school year with our Poetry Journals at some point.
  • I will not be creating a Teachers Pay Teachers account. Read previous posts and you will soon realize I just don't believe in charging for materials. Would I enjoy the extra supplement to my income, sure...but it's not going to happen.
  • Scribd goes slow. It's free. A cross you must be willing to bare.
  • I will not change my documents for you to different formats nor will I email them to you. I don't mean to sound wenchy...it's just a fact.

Now with the post :-)
November is a CrAzY month for us in our district! The kiddos are off for the entire week of Thanksgiving. We have Parent/Teacher conferences on Monday and Tuesday, then we are off the rest of the week. I LOVE it!!!

With that being said, what you will find with this edition is not much, lol. The first week of November/the last week of October we learn about Fall (I am going to repost Gray Squirrel because that is the poem we do). The two weeks that follow are a combination of Turkeys and Thanksgiving. The week of Thanksgiving we are off, so there isn't a poem. The final week of November/first week of December we do our Gingerbread unit. Sorry for any confusion this may cause!

As always, I hope you find things that you can use in your own classroom, and I hope to inspire you to share with your fellow teachers! Leave a comment if you download :)

Enjoy!
Shannon

  1. Shannon,
You rock! I appreciate the downloads and the willingness you have to share with others. Thank you! I don't have a blog or a tpt, but I do recognize quality teaching when I see it. I will continue to follow you this year on our Kindergarten journey (this year 18 per class )

  2. Thank you Shannon!!! Your posts always make me smile! You are amazing! We have the whole week of Thanksgiving off too. We do conferences at night the week before, so we all get the whole week off which I love!

    Thanks again,
    Kari :)

  4. thanks again Shannon! I am nearing the start of my school year and yet, getting poems organized for the year is important to my overall feeling of readiness for the madness and excitement to start. Thanks for all your efforts!

  5. Dear Shannon,
This will be my 5th year teaching kindergarten, and I've been wanting to do more with poetry but just haven't gotten anything going . . . until THIS year when I started seeing your posts for poetry journals. I am so excited to try out the poetry journals, and I am so thankful that you have shared (for free) all of your documents!! The online blog community has become a place that I have come to depend on for new and inspiring ideas. The teachers that I work with in my building at my grade level, while I love them, just don't ever do anything NEW. My online colleagues have been wonderful. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

  6. p.s. just a question for you . . . can you post a photo of what your journals actually look like? You mentioned using folders. Are they just the 3-prong kind? How often are you punching holes and putting them into the folders? Do the homework pages go in, too, or just the poem page? I'd love some more information.

  13. Hey Shannon! I was reading a little of what you wrote about free downloads. I just wanted to say that I adore (and download) EVERYTHING you make. I am in love with djinkers clipart and fonts as well. I never buy anything online: I either create it myself or find it for free! I LOVE that you offer what you make to other educators at no cost. Your work has been a blessing to me as a fellow K teacher. I just wanted to drop this note so that I am no longer one of the teachers who downloads all your hard work without leaving a comment. I will say it again: I ADORE your creations. :) Thanks a bunch for what you share with us-Hopefully I will have the chance to share my creations with you someday! Thanks again!

  22. I have just found your website and am loving it! As a newer teacher it is so nice to be able to borrow ideas without paying for them (my husband and our house fund also thank you =)) I will continue to follow and wish you all the best of luck both in the classroom and with your adventure into motherhood!
