1- Make it look like a classroom.
2- Revamp it
Fail. So, I haven't been shy about how things are going in my life, things ultimately have just fallen apart. I am not fishing for any woe is me, it is what it is. I am trying hard to find my way through some beyond murky waters. Anywho, I have very little control of my personal life, so it an attempt to have major control somewhere, I decided to redo my room and try to feel really good while I'm at school.
Clearly I have too many projects....personal things are causing my brain to lack the capacity to organize or at least complete more than one task to completion. I am in need of a life coach.
Here is my classroom my pigsty today.

Guess what? The 7 coats of magnetic primer actually hold little letters. Worth it...probably not, but live it, learn it! I decided to paint my cabinets green. The green I chose seemed like a good choice at the time, I'm pretty sure you can see it from space ;-)
Before...
They were U.G.L.Y and chipped. So, last year I asked my principal if I could paint and she said yes! First I used magnetic primer on 4 of them. Then I painted them this crazy green...
Ohhlala...see the little magnetic letter :0) |
Seriously, they are BRIGHT! I love 'em; however, I nearly got in trouble from our Scary Head Maintenance guy. Who said the problem is that it might be flammable and that now all the rooms aren't uniform. Scary. Truly, I am an avid rule follower. I was freaking. All worked out, here's the full pic.
That's pretty much all I got done. Then I flit, flit, flit, couldn't keep my eye on the prize at all. Speaking of prizes, here are all of my goodies that were awaiting me (please keep in mind that all of this is grant money and school purchases)...

Love the lime green! That's one of my colors for my classroom :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the green!!! I painted my cabinets red and blue this year....they were formerly an old, outdated, 70's orange color. It's wonderful what a coat of paint can do!! I think your room is going to really pop when it's done. Don't worry...we've all had chaos in the classroom. It'll get there!!!

K is for Kinderrific
Oh, Shannon---I think we had about the same kind of day---but your room looks better than mine does! And I didn't upset the Scary Head Maintenance guy---I upset the Head Day Custodian. Read my entry and compare the pictures---very similar indeed.
ReplyDeleteAnd, Shannon--know that you are on my heart and in my prayers.

Oh Shannon, your first day back, it always looks like a hopeless disaster! (If it didn't, you'd wonder who had been in your room, and where they hid your favorite markers!) Pull out a legal pad, a tall glass of whatever, sit back, and just make a list! Have to do, want to do, to buy, etc. You've already got a great start with your cabinets! (Don't let Mr. Filch get you down...it is in their job description!) Before you know it, you will have teased a beautiful classroom out of the jungle!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the green cabinets!! I love setting up my room but I always feel so unfocused, but somehow it all gets done! Good luck I can't wait to see pictures.

I say the green cabinets were totally worth the scare from the maintenance man. They turned out great! :) I love a splash of bright color.
ReplyDeleteI love that green!! Today was also my first day back, and all I did was rearrange furniture!

Shannon - Hang in there GIRL!! I know personal tradegy can be overwhelming and consuming. I am happy for you that you have little Coop. In a couple of days, you will have your class who will make you laugh and bring you some joy! Nothing like Kindergartens!!
ReplyDeleteHi! Your classroom is big and I do love those cool green cabinets. I hope you find the strength to get through whatever hard times your having. (Virtual hug)

Sometimes 1 day at a time is too much - 1 hour at a time is what we can do...when life seems out of control - I agree- then I need some control in my classroom...pick 1 project and see it thru, keep doing this and you will begin to see some accomplishments....
ReplyDeleteLove the green! Looks like the color I painted my bulletin boards :-)
Shannon - I think for Day 1 you did great! I moved rooms this year and it took me 4 days just to unpack! I always find myself sitting in the middle of my room for a while just looking around trying to focus on what I want to happen there. Tables are next along with the rug and then suddenly click, click, click, it starts to come together!
ReplyDeleteYour cabinets are sooo fun and the 'hoppers' will love them! I ended up using pink and tourquoise this year...a bit eye poppin, but lots of fun and very cheerful.
I picked owls this year, timely with your wonderful unit that I purchased! Do you suppose "Kinder-Hooters" is too risky????
I might need some other suggestions!!
Have fun setting up! It will be great!
